Therapy

In Art Therapy clients may express their thoughts and feelings using dialogue and/or a choice of visual fine art materials during the session. No previous experience with art materials is necessary. Pencils, pastels, charcoal, paint, clay, and collage materials are available. The creative process and meaningful reflection on the art work help promote change. The images hold, symbolize, and help organize the feelings and experiences. They offer a springboard for insight, self-awareness, and self-acceptance.

Sandplay Therapy is a non-directed, non-verbal therapy utilized by children and adults. Originating with Dora M. Kalff, a Swiss analyst, Sandplay is based on the psychological principles of C. G. Jung. Clients create a picture in the sand tray using a choice of many small miniatures.

The DIR® treatment model informs my thinking when children are struggling with

social-emotional or sensory integration issues. It strives to provide a developmental road-map to increase the child's meaningful communication and interest in others and the world. Through intentional interactions with the child, the parent is coached to build on spontaneity, the child's natural interests and emotions, while respecting his/ her child's unique nervous system. The DIR® model and the foundational play-based approach, FloortimeTM , incorpoarted into the DIR® model, was developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan, MD and Serena Wieder. Ph.D.
